I'm watching my old photos (summer 2008) from Transsiberian trip, and I've found these birds that I'd like to ID
The first 5 pictures were taken in the Toyama harbour (north coast of Japan) ; no idea of the identification...
the last 3 were taken near Baikal Lake and Krasnoiarsk (Russia) : might be an Azure-winged Magpie, and some kind of a Great Grey Shrike subspecies?

Thank you

All the gulls (I think including no. 4?) seem to be black-tailed gulls.
2. Black kite.
6-7. Seem to be red-billed blue magpies - but they don't occur right up there. Sure you've got the location right?
8. Looks like the local great-grey-shrike-type thing, as you say.

All Black-tailed Gull (beautiful young bird (no4) and a Black-eared Kite.
6-7 2 species, I think. Azure-winged, but what are they chasing, some cuckoo I imagine? (Oriental or Common)
8 pass (Great-grey-ish: Northern, Steppe? Chinese?)

cheers,
Gerben

What ssp of Great Grey Shrike could we expect there? Can Brown Shrike be excluded? This photo can't be positively ID'd I think, but I am no Lanius-expert. Turkestan and Steppe Grey are accepted in the Netherlands (as, I am sure, in some other European countries) Chinese Grey drew a crowd in Japan in 2019/2020, they can turn up most anywhere.

cheers,
Gerben

I've taken the photo exactly 3h30 after our stop in Krasnoyarsk rail station, heading to Novossibirsk.
So it's probably ~200 km west of Krasnoyarsk

Great Grey Shrike - BirdForum Opus | BirdForum shows:
  • L. e. excubitor

  • Small white patch at base of primaries; minimal white above black mask

  • L. e. homeyeri

  • Balkan Peninsula to southern Ural Mountains and western Siberia

  • Large white patch at base of primaries; broader white band above black mask; overall slightly paler than L. e. excubitor

  • L. e. leucopterus:

So I would think the latter
