thats a shame, i am back in wales next week so was hoping to catch up with Short eared and Long eared. Usually dorset has quite a few wintering Short-eared Owl but this winters there not been one. suppose the cold weather hasn't helped.

Been walking the dog up Garnlydan res in the evening this week...very quiet up there though - the goosanders I saw on the Blue Lak have moved up to the small pond on the far side of the reservoir...gulls most night and last night had quite close views of a reed bunting.

Graden has been very quiet this week...haven't seen siskin or goldies for 2 days now - typical after I put my feeders back up...tits, robin, dunnock, blackbird and bullies and thats it.

Out of County...been up to Upper Neuadd a couple of times this week and saw some fieldfare, jays, n mistle thrush

Talybont Reservoir...stopped on the side of the road and scanned the res on day and loats of birdlife on there but not good with id's but a guy stopped whilst I was there and was identifying goldeneye, pochard & gc grebes.

Have been over to Craig Y Cilau one day too and just a lone peregrine viewed.

Garden's improving... 5 bullfinch - one female hit the patio, after 10 minutes in the hand it flew away :) and 2 siskins have appeared. :)) dunnocks are nest building. goldfinches are still around and sheep are trying to break through the undergrowth.

Mothing last night for GMS and had nothing! -0.5C at the start!

don't seem to get many on the res, i've only seen a few there. The upper carno always used to have a few and i always assumed that if i saw a bird on garnlydan, it probably came from carno.

Walked the dog over Newtown this morning.

Sadly, 1st thing I have to report is that it look like the Long Feeder is being drained. It's been a couple of months since I was last up there and the water is just filling the botom of the pond. Fences have been erected on the far banks (not sure why?) and on the Waunlwyd end there has been extensive drainage work done. What has really annoyed me though on the bottom path they have cut down lots of trees along the small water path that runs the length of the path...why? There is one tree in particular a willow that always had a little warbler in come the summer...just don't understand why?

While I am moaning I saw there was a large fire up near the Carno last evening...about 7.15pm there were flames quite high up and I expect there to be major damage to the trees up there today...there is a spate of this going on around this area atm and my guess is that it is deliberate...hope they catch the culprits :C

Back to my walk this morning....Robins...lost count to be honest..lol. Couple of buzzards, 2 green woodies on telegraph poles, M&F Greenfinch, Dunnocks, Tits, Reed Bunting, Wren, M&F Stonechat, 4 mallards on the feeder.

Had a quick look on the Ebbw on the way home and caught a couple of dippers up n down the river.....

Garden....female bully in for breakfast when I got home.

lets hope someone 'accidently burns' the moors above the garnlydan reservoir. they always burn the area which don't need it!
