Hairy or Downy Woodpecker? (1 Viewer)

Hi All,
Going through some of the old photos I saw this picture. At the time I thought it was a Downy. But now looking at the big bill size I'm guessing it could be Hairy. Any help with the ID is appreciated. This was at Bob Woodruff park in Dallas taken during May 2020.

Yup, Hairy Woodpecker. Also no black spots on the white outer tail feather.

Downy for me - look closely, there are spots on the outer tail feathers, tho' not very conspicuous; also the bill looks small to me, distinctly shorter than the head.

Is this a consistent field mark? I feel that I see quite a bit of variation, with some bills as long as the head but many of a bit shorter length.

Not sure if there's any overlap, but on this pic, the bill is not much more than half the head length, which puts it well in Downy range. Zoomed in on my computer screen, the bill is 3 cm, and the rest of the head 5 cm. On Hairy, it'd be closer to equal.

And more importantly, the spots on the tail; here's a zoomed in printscreen with them indicated:

Agreed. Downy for me too.

On second thoughts, it could be a downy. The image quality isn't good on my device.

Thank you Nutcracker for correcting. The angle of the bird and beak made me think other wise. Thanks for confirming with other field identification of black spots.
