Hairy Woodpecker? (1 Viewer)

Hello, I am new to this site. I live in Northern New York and am a lover of birds. This bird was spotted in the Adirondack Mountains. (New York) It has been here at my house every day for 2 weeks. I have never seen a woodpecker with this coloring. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hiding all its best features, but it does look rather more like hairy woodpecker than downy woodpecker. It's an aberrant individual with feather-pigmentation issues.

Can you measure your feeder? That would give you a great idea to the size, and therefore species, since the bill length is hidden in this pic

The feeder is about 9 inches tall. Here is another photo. Thanks!
