Nice. Seems that there was a small influx of wrynecks - one at needs ore today, and old basing yesterday, in addition to the pennington one.

Grrrr. You'll be laughing when a mega turns up at pennington. ;) Or even worse, it turns out that mystery emer bog bird was a black crowned night heron. Which leaves as soon as you return.:-O

Nice pics btw. What camera are you using?

Have a good trip :t:

Spotted Flycatcher on Southampton Common this morning. Also Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps, lots of Goldcrests and Nuthatches, and a perched Tawny Owl. Still waiting for something a little rarer to turn up there.

We are down at Keyhaven via N/F at the weekend and just wondered what we should keep our eyes open for?

I have to admit that seeing a Wryneck would add one more tick to my "list"!

Many thanks for any input ...

3 ruff , up to 2 hobbies, 4 knot and a peregrine around keyhaven this pm.

Roy,
Scan the lagoons at high tide for things like curlew sand and little stint.

Lagoons in a nutshell

Keyhaven - pretty good for waders, usually greenshank, plus a couple of black swan

Fishtail - Very good for waders - where you have the best chance of curlew sand or little stint. Keep a watch on the sedge stuff in the corner, some waders like to hide around there. Sometimes a med gull mixed in with the bh's on the shingle

Butts - two lagoons
- the one nearest keyhaven - Good for duck, some wigeon are there at the moment.
- nearest the jetty - good for waders - the ruff like it and is worth spending a while to check for anything irregular

the ones further up arent so good, but are worth checking if you can be bothered to walk. At low tide, the mud near the dead tree out on the marsh is good, and its worth checking oxey island ( an exposed shingle island left of the jetty/outfall ) for black tern.

The balancing pond has a couple of garganey on it atm.

For more details pm me.

Hello Paul,
Suspect the smiley most appropriate would be :eek!:

Still LOTS of birds at Baddesley Common, in the scrub on the western edge, but I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary this morning..
Willow Warblers, Chiff Chaffs, and Blackcaps in good numbers.

Plenty going on in the south-east with a Red-backed Shrike on Hayling and 2 Curlew Sandpipers amongst many commoner waders at Farlington as well as what Lee has previously mentioned. A couple of belated reports as well - Bittern at Titchfield Haven 29th August, Bee-eater over Sandy Point, Hayling on 9th and a Wryneck at the same site on 23rd August.
