Handbook of Western Palearctic Birds (1 Viewer)

The excellent 2 volume Handbook of Western Palearctic Birds by Hadoram Shirihai and Lars Svensson was published in the UK in 2018.
They are an absolutely masterful pair of books with stunning photos, but unfortunately they only deal with the Passerines of the region. The coverage of the Passerines in these books is however dealt with over 1,271 pages so is very detailed.

Does anyone know if there are any plans to publish more volumes to include the Non - Passerines?

I was hoping that as these volumes are titled Western Palearctic Birds and not Western Palearctic Passerines this might eventually happen.

There are plans but AFAIK Hadoram Shirihai is currently working on his seabird books. Given that the Passerines volume of HWPB took 20 years to get published, and Shirihai has at least one other book to publish before even beginning the Non-Passerines, there's a chance it might never happen.

Thanks for the update. Disappointing as it certainly looks like it will be very unlikely that we'll see any more volumes in this series. Hopefully one day someone will produce a similar sort of book featuring the Non-Passerines of the Western Palearctic.

Yes the second pair of volumes are happening. I'm not able to elaborate at the moment but I'll have fuller details on the books very soon. Watch this space.
