John,
would the Turnstone & Green Sands be identifiable with bins, or are they scope only (if still there of course).
I'm presuming the YL Gulls are scope only.

Hi Allan,

The Turnstone is still present this morning as per Kevin Duncan. You will need a scope as with most of the stuff at Tices, it was in the workings yesterday evening. The Green Sandpipers, of which there have been up to 5 present, also favour the small pool to your left as you view from the bank so can be reasonably viewed with your bins.

HTH,

John.

Two trips to Tice's Meadow today. Turnstone this afternoon, along with 3 ad Yellow-legged Gulls, 3 Common Sandpipers and a Green Sandpiper. Back again at 2000hrs to find 4 Green Sandpipers and at least 3 Commons. 3 Yellow-legged Gulls amongst the Lesser Black-Backs which all duly flew back to Walton Reservoirs just before 2100hrs. Given the wing and mantle colour of the LBBs I would suggest that two races are present currently - graellsii and intermedius. The Gulls are certainly worth watching closely with a bird showing characteristics of larus fuscus fuscus present in the last month. Next Gull - Caspian?

Surrey Year List now at 140 (Yellowhammer added today)
Latest UK tick - White-tailed Plover (Dungeness)

2 Green Sands & 3 Common Sands at Tices this morning, no Wood Sand yet!

John.

Managed a very quick trip to Tices yesterday - saw a Sandpaper, but no scope, no ID :-C

Also stopped on the A31 to get a view of the gulls - looking for the YL, but all of them were sitting down - most unco-operative.

In the trees near the stream did see a few LBJ's - nearest I could get was Garden Warbler - are they found at Tices? Uncertain so no tick.

Cracking morning with Rich Horton. New species for Tice's with juv Curlew Sandpiper which sadly flew NW at 1110hrs. 6 Green Sandpipers, 5 Common Sandpipers, 2 ad Yellow-Legged Gulls, 1 Common Gull and 2 ad Arctic Terns (1 colour ringed). Day Gull roost smaller than usual but birds were much closer and thus easier to view.

Surrey Year List 144.

Great stuff Rich, well done on two excellent finds. Are the Arctics a first for Tices?

John,

Rich thought not. I nearly didn't turn up but glad I did now. All too brief a glimpse of the Curlew Sandpiper before it was spooked and I only had proper eyes on as it flew away.

Spent a productive hour at Thundry Meadows this afternoon:

Spotted Flycatcher
Kingfisher
Mandarin Duck
Shoveler

Also possible Osprey but too far away for positive id

Interesting sight - what appeared to be 2 dead Mink hung from a fence.
