Having 2 pairs of binoculars. Which would you choose? (1 Viewer)

You know I just don’t think I can,it has to be 3!
7x21 8x32 12x42 (used on a tripod) I also have the 8x42 but I feel I will sell these as I just don’t use them, but my go to pair is the 8x32
Always Swarovski I do love the brand.

Great bino's
Not too close to each other?

I have a
NL Pure 8x42
Zeiss Victory Pocket 8x25 (i use this one more often at daytime).

Maybe in add a Curio to it, or replace VP.
Or 10x30 or 12x42 in future.
(Its an addictive 😃)

By way of an update, I got bored waiting for my Habicht 10x40 to sell in the classifieds so I thought I'd take the plunge and try using it as one of two binoculars (the other being my Swaro 8x25 Pocket).

Since then I've used the Habicht nearly every day and it has provided some stunning views of both landscapes and bird life. One glorious evening there were literally 100s of martins and swallows gathering and it was a delight to use. It definitely has its quirks but I'm getting used to them. However I am a little concerned about what will happen to the focuser stiffness when the temperatures properly drop!

So is it now my ideal 'big binocular' to pair with a small one? Definitely not is the short answer. I would still really like Swaro to come out with a competitor to the 8x40 SFL. But until that happens I'm going to keep on enjoying the Habicht :)

Probably, and through the approaching winter months, I may well use a larger aperture binocular on a regular basis. But, for my normal/daily use, these two binoculars are 100% my most comfortable (a perfect fit and I'm barely aware that I'm using them). They are also completely different in their characters, one 8x and one 10x, one curved field and one flat field, one has the most gorgeous warm saturated colour cast and the other an enhanced feeling of brightness from it's light blue hue. They're my two best and most trusted friends, amongst my binoculars.

Sorry, I came over a bit sentimental there...

James, i had a sentimental binocular experience this morning as well: beautiful sunrise this morning and as usual i use my Habicht 8x30 with my first coffee to look what is going on in the world. For some reason i also took my Leica UVHD 8x32 from my fieldcoat to compare it with the Habicht. The differences are many but both are outstanding binoculars in their own way. The Leica is so incredibly compact and has such wonderful colours. The Habicht is astonishingly bright and (for me) has a very relaxed eye placement and ergonomics. After comparing them for an hour or so i took my FL 7x42 and got even more happy with its very comfortable view and ergonomics. Three different brands and three wonderful binoclars. Now i have to decide which one im gonna take for my Sunday walk….

I've never had the opportunity to look through the now legendary 7x42 FL, which I know is my loss! My instinct, if you have a sunny day there in the Netherlands, would be to take the Ultravid or Habicht, or the FL if it's grey and cloudy. Whatever the weather and whichever you take, however, there is no bad decision, amongst those three beauties.

Happy Sunday, my friend!

Thanks and a happy Sunday to you as well my friend!

The bright FL 7x is really nice but the colors and contrast in the Leica‘s also, oh well IMO you can’t go wrong with either of them. In the end i went out on my bicycle wearing a minimalistic jacket so i took the UV 10x25 with me. It’s nice to have options.

Me, I took the decision not to wear glasses today and went for full on '3D POP' this afternoon, and carried my 10x35 EII, which made a refreshing change from the wide flat field binoculars I've been carrying recently. It reminded me that best binoculars and favourite binoculars are a gulf apart.

To drag things back on topic, sort of, if I didn't wear glasses most of the time, and could only have two binoculars, I think I might just go porros these days, an 8x30 Habicht and 10x35 EII, the view through both is something very special.

In deciding which two (only), either of the Leica Duovids seem a logical choice allowing just two bins to cover more ground. A three punch combination with only two bins.

If we eliminate the Duovids for whatever reason, and if it has not already been suggested here, an FL 7x42 paired with an UV 10x25 would be hard to beat in my experience. Particularly the sleeker UV BL version is the most realistic / "true" shirt pocket of the high end 25mm models.

Good choice James. I have a Nikon 10x35 6.6 WH and its a nifty little binocular with excellent “3D POP”.
Enjoy your Porro’s!

Absolutely, the sleeker BL version is a great shirt pocket. I take it with me quit often. The small Leica or the micro Nikon 6x14.

The Duovid is indeed maybe the best choice as you have two magnification options in one small package. Maybe nice to pair the Duovid with a Curio?

I confess I'm totally besotted with my 10x35 EII's, I'm struggling to leave the house with anything else at the moment. They are, without a doubt, flavour of the month and my current favourite binoculars.

Next month? Who knows 😉😇

The problem with multiple pairs of binoculars is that for the most part you can only take one pair with you. And so unless you know exactly what kinds of habitat you are going to be in, you need a versatile pair.

I guess if I were to choose two, it would be one pair that is bigger and more powerful for most "serious" birding and one that is smaller and lighter when I want to have binoculars with me, but don't want to lug around more weight and bulk than I need.

So my "serious" binoculars would be 9X45 and my back ups would be 7X28.

I don't think either of those sizes is available in the alpha brands I use. But I guess 8X32 and 10X42 would fit the bill close enough.

One is enough. For me it's a 8x30 (Zeiss SFL).

I had several bins at times, but I always ended up using one bin only for everything.
