A friend took this a couple of weeks ago when he first saw it come over the trees, he thought it was a Buzzard because of the size but as soon as he got the bins up relised it was a large hawk, he watched it for a bit before it disapreared north over the motorway, ..

he has seen a loads of female spawks before and this was a lot bigger than anything he as seen before...Could it be a Goshawk !

Sprawk. It looks heavier than a 'normal' bird because the feathers at the base of the tail are fluffed up, but the shape of the trailing edge to the wing isn't as 'S' shaped as Gos, and it's got a small head, grey under-tail coverts and square outer corners to the tail.

I was the one that sent this pic to Jas and asked for help IDing it, at the same that time he posted it on here I decided to post it up on Birdguides labeled as unidentified with the description shown above, to see what replies it got, it took them a while to upload it but when they did, they had taken out my description saying possible Gos etc. and posted it straight up as a Goshawk???

If you look in the Birdguides gallery under Goshawk there are quite a few that are very obvious Sprawks. This pair really do cause problems.
