Message: <blockquote data-quote="ceasar" data-source="post: 3270771" data-attributes="member: 26155">That is curious.The ER of the 7x42 Ultravid is 17mm.  The ER of the 8x42 Ultravid is 15.9mm and on the 10x42 it is 15.8mm.  That isn't much difference but the ER of the  7x42 is still longer and should not have seemed too short.  (I have the earlier model Leica 7x42 Trinovid with pull out eye cups.  It also has 17mm ER and they are not too short for me and neither are the twist out ones on my 8x42 Ultravid.)The eye cups on my Leica 8x42 Ultravid Blackline have 7 distinct stops in them from fully opened to fully closed.  You have to open it very slowly to feel them all.Are you sure that you had the eye cups on the 7x42 fully opened when you used it?  The 2nd, 4th and 6th clicks are very short movements and lock the eye cups in position.  The 7th click is the furthest distance that the eye cup will move.  If you are in the habit of opening the eye cups very quickly you may not notice this.Bob</blockquote>
