Hello everyone! picking this up as a new hobby after moving to the big smoke. really keen for any advise about what, if any, I can see in London. Looking forward to making friends and snapping some birds. 🦅 🦅 🦅

Hi LondonWatcher and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

For some ideas on places to visit you could make a start in our Opus articles. There are several on this link, for more options just search on the surrounding counties, such as Essex or Surrey, depending on the side of London you're interested in.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Depends how far you're prepared to go. There are the big ticket places like Rainham Marshes (e.g. Avocet, marsh harrier), wetlands trust in Barnes (similar but smaller numbers, range of species but often choice things or outright rarities. Beddington and Dagenham Chase ditto. Perhaps a good start is to look at ebird London hotspots. With covid, lots more local recording has happened with many more migrants recorded. E.g. redstarts, spotted flycatchers etc in central London. Currently black restart is on show in Mayfair. Check London birders latest news for details.
