Hello everyone and looking forward to ideas and help for a newbie to birds. I have always been aware of and thought I knew my birds but I recently retired and now that I have time to relax I have a new perspective on them. I have a tabletop book on birds for this area so I’m trying to learn.

Hi there Chas ahd welcome aboard :)

Hi Chas and a warm welcome from me too. You may find the Tips for New Birders Tips For New Birders forum helpful.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing about the birds you see around you.

Welcome to the forum - and thank you for reminding me with your heading of the Springsteen song Youngstown - first line:
Here in northeast Ohio / back in 1803...

Thanks all for the warm welcome !! I recently (2 weeks ago) had my in ground swimming pool removed and filled. It pretty much destroyed my backyard BUT I’m pretty much a glass half full kind of person SO I have the opportunity to make my backyard whatever I want lol !!

The birds and my squirrels (I know but they are SO cute and playful) are having a hard time adjusting.
After I get my grass grown I’d like to make it more bird friendly and possibly an obstacle course for the squirrels. I have around 30’X100’ to work with, more but that’s what’s enclosed with my privacy fence. I’ll definitely be looking for ideas and any DIY plans for building nesting houses.

Thanks again !!!
