Hello from Tennessee! My name is John and I’m fairly new to birding. My whole life I’ve been an avid outdoorsman but about 3 years ago my health took a drastic turn. I’ve struggled because I can hardly walk and am on full time oxygen so I felt I couldn’t go outdoors. My wife came up with the idea of going birding and so far I love it! We go to the local parks and either drive around or park and she pushes my wheelchair around and look for birds.

Hi John and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. I can sympathise completely with you. Although I'm not in a chair, I have to use walking sticks, so using binoculars and a camera is very difficult. So I use my car as a hide, unless the place I go to has a hide (blind to you I think), where I can sit down.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Welcome to Birdforum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

Being out in the fresh air will do both your physical and mental health so much good. Maybe you can incorporate other outdoor activities into your life too - maybe visit gardens, nature reserves, or even have coffee or a meal out. 😊

Hi John, welcome to the forum. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group.
