Hello - Mourning Dove question (1 Viewer)

Hello, I am new to the forum. We recently moved to the Phoenix AZ area from Southern CA. We have a few feeders in our back yard and love the birds.
The day before yesterday we noticed a Dove that ran into our sliding glass door, it recovered but is seems now that it cannot fly. It is active and alert but cannot get more than 2 feet off the ground. Due to our back yard design and walls it is stuck in our yard. We have made sure that it has bird seed and we have a dish of water on the ground and have been leaving it alone and letting it rest. Yesterday it was stretching its wings and they look uniform and do not seem like they are broken. We tried to catch it at first but it can get away so we stopped as not to stress it. Other than making seed and water available is there anything else that will be good for it? We are hoping that once it has time to rest it will recover and fly away but since it is stuck in the yard we want to make sure that it has everything it needs for nutrition. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Hi Paulin and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. We have some general guidelines here for the care of injured and baby birds. I hope this gives you some hints as to your way forward with this guy, but please don't be afraid to ask any more questions if you need to.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

It was a fledgling, although it was on the ground for quite a long time, after 6 days it finally found its wings and was off to bigger and better things.
