New guy here, just taking my interest in birds up a notch. Here in northern Utah we get a lot of migratory birds in spring and fall, with many great places to observe.

I'm mostly interested in bird and other wildlife viewing, as well as astronomy. So I use my 72mm short tube refractor as well as my binos (8x42 and 15x70) on a photo tripod. I would like to try some photography but don't want to get too deep into DSLR or $$$. I have a phone mount on order to try with the telescope just for kicks. It would be nice to find a camera with a good zoom to take on hikes for quick handheld shots.

So, I'll be lurking around in the forums soaking up info and ideas from you all.

Thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick and a warm welcome from me too.

I have a Nikon Coolpix P900 which I'm very pleased with. There's two newer models the P950 and guess what LOL the P1000, which users on here seem to like as well. But have a nose around the Photography, Digiscoping & Art forum and ask for other recommendations in there. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to see some of your pictures in the Gallery when you're sorted.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
