I live in Berkshire and have been photographing birds for a few years. I started with digiscoping and then switched to DSLR using a Canon 5d3 and up until last week a Canon EF 100-400mm f/5.6. I have finally bitten the bullet and swapped this for a Canon EF 500mm f/4 and I'm now trying to get used to the extra weight, new controls etc.
Does anyone have any advice in using this particular lens ? I am interested in portability, technique, focus distancing etc. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi walketer and a warm welcome from me too.

You might want to have a talk to the members in the Canon forum. I think you'll find them willing to help you. Hopefully we may be able to see some of your pictures in the Gallery too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
