Can anyone tell me what this is?

Ive seen it several times now in a field behind the garden. I live in North West Germany and the picture was taken from approx 50 meters with a 12x optical zoom camera.

This Bird often perches on this stake and I would estimate its body length is approx 40-60cm.

Many thanks to anyone who can help me,

Chris.

Birding for fun
Definitely a common buzzard.
Birds showing this phase and lighter to almost pure white without being leucistic are common in northern Europe, esp Netherlands where they seem to occur every 200 metres or so along the motorway from Amsterdam to the coast. Had me guessing for a while when I first saw one. Several birds later confirmed that they came in all possible shades.

I too agree with pale Common buzzard, I often see one when taking a look around Severn Beach/New Passage area on Severnside.

Hi,

Based on the fact that this bird in my post was indentified as a Common Buzzard then i would say yours is too...
