Help with (potentially) selling Nikon HGL binoculars (1 Viewer)

Hi folks looking for a bit of advice on (maybe) selling my Nikon HGL 8x42 binoculars. Just to be clear before I ask my questions, this is not an advert, I am merely seeking a bit of advice prior to trading then in or, possibly, selling them (if I do sell privately I will place an advert in Birdforum classifieds, so no offers on this thread please)

I have not used these for some years, and have drifted towards lightweight and pocket models, currently using pocket Leicas. Some while back my partner bought Swarovski compacts and I have been starting the borrow those more and more and am to thinking of buying my own (not least as she is starting to protest about my using them more than her). As a result I was thinking about selling my Nikons. These are about ten years old and, whilst in prefect condition seem to have been largely replaced by the Monarch HG models.

Wha tis the best way to go about trading them in/selling them (I am aware of the classifieds on this forum) obviously the more I get for them the less money I have to add. What can I expect in terms of percentage value agains the new price if I were to trade in at an optics dealer - is there a formula, say 25% on new price etc? I want to try and get the best deal possible. Thanks in advance.

Depending on condition, accessories etc between £300 - £500 would be reasonable to expect from a private sale, though if you were to trade in or part-ex I'd be surprised if you were offered anything over £250. The best option would be to call a shop and see what they quote - perhaps Ace Optics/In Focus/Birders Store/Cley Spy.

Thank you, I will give that a try.

I've got these and I briefly considered selling them (USA) and I was thinking of asking $500, they're in perfect condition. Might have sold for $400.

Then I realized it's not worth it! I really like them, such easy viewing without the blackout problems of wider field binos. Prefer the ergonomics of them to almost everything else too. I also realized I need a pair of binos to take on sandy beach walks and outings that that's the new role of these binos for me - or when I need a pair to leave in the car, take camping, etc.

They are still an excellent glass IMO, I really do not think there is a better 7 degree FOV than these. I have the original LX, HG/L and Premier.
