Hermit Thrush Arizona USA (1 Viewer)

Rufous-Female
Taken in Show Low Arizona on Oct 29, 09... East portion of state... forested and higher altitude.

Hermit Thrush I think but I need confirmations. The book says 6 3/4 inches which is bigger than my impression of the bird, but the smaller size makes me choose Hermit rather than Swainson's. Also the crest threw me off.. but maybe a gust of wind blew up the feathers.

yes, Hermit. Look for the contrastingly rufous tail and rump on Hermit, it should never steer you wrong...........unles you are in the NE looking for Bicknell's!

With the rusty red tinge to primaries, rusty red tail. And boldly spotted breast. Hermit Thrush for me. Lovely photo's too.

Estimating size in the field is very difficult and is usually subjective to angle, distance, etc.
