Hi Bird Lovers- I just put a new cedarwood birdhouse on my balcony. How long does it take for the sparrows to feel comfortable in making a nest in it? (1 Viewer)

Hard to say. Depends on how much traffic is near by also, not a good idea to put seed in front of it because if a bird is thinking about nesting in it, the seed in front will draw other birds too close to the bird house which can be threatening to a bird occupying it. Good luck and keep us posted.

How long? It could be hours, days, weeks or never.

I agree with KC that it's not a good idea to put food so close to it. Also I think it should be fixed up on the wall, not sitting on the ground. That is far too low and risks predators getting into it.

Is it positioned by a door? If so, that will put birds off using it. Also it needs to be at least 6 feet off the ground. You also need to check if it is facing the right direction - north east is best.
