HI EVERYONE AND THANK FOR HAVING ME,

I HAVE LOVED NATURE SINCE I WAS 4 YEARS OLD.

EVERYTHING IN THAT SPECTRUM IS PRECIOUS TO ME BUT I DO ESPECIALLY LOVE BIRDS.

I KNOW ITS NOT A WILD BIRD BUT I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF A CALIFORNIAN QUAIL IN MY GARDEN FOR 2 DAYS AND I FEED IT.

IT RESPONDS TO ITS CALL AND IS A MALE.

NOT SURE HOW I CAN PROTECT IT AS IT EVIDENTLY ESCAPED FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTOR. PREDATORS ARE MANY SO I AM TRYING TO CAPTURE IT TO GO TO SOMEONE WHO KEEPS CANARIES AND HOPEFULLY FIND AN OWNER OF THESE BEAUTIFUL BIRDS TO TAKE IT ON. HAS ANYONE ANY IDEAS PLEASE, EITHER HOW TO CATCH IT SAFELY OR FINDING OTHER COLLECTORS? thank you

Hi Birdgirl and a warm welcome to you from BirdForum ;)

Do you have a humane society near you that you can report this to and perhaps pick them up?

Hi Birdgirl and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. Catching a healthy bird is almost impossible really, so your best to try to contact a wildlife rescue centre in your area who will likely have the specialist equipment and expertise.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group.

If the bird is fit and healthy then leave it. You could try asking around if anyone has lost a California Quail but a wildlife rescue place isn't going to be interested in a healthy bird.

thank you everyone.. well CALIFORNIA QUAIL still healthy, happy and free in and around my garden with the goldcrests, 2 mallards, finches and robins, tits and many blackbirds.. i think i would prefer him free.. he is a strong flyer and he deserves to use those wings
