Hey birders, my name is Evan, I’m nearly 16 and I’m fairly new to the birding hobby. You can call me Ev as well since it’s in my username. Ever since I’ve been to my grandparents, we’ve sometimes visited welney wetland centre near Ely. Most of the times we went, I was young, probably 6 or 7 and paid no attention to the birds. But a few months ago, there was a lot of bird action in our garden, consisting of blue tits great tits, a few long tailed tits and a greater spotted woodpecker arrived on the feeder. Ever since then I have been using my dads camera to photograph birds, and enjoyed taking pictures of the numerous goldfinches that appeared in his garden. (Parents split sadly) and when the chance arose to go to my grandmas in the summer holiday, we went to welney. There i saw more birds than I had ever seen! Ruff, avocet, lapwing, sandpiper. I don’t have a specialist pair of binoculars, but I’m getting some for Christmas, and this weekend I’m hiring out a 500mm f4.5 canon lens when I go to Rainham marshes. The camera I use is a Canon EOS 750D and the lenses are a 18-35mm f2.8 canon EF and a 75-300mm f5.6 EF lens. So hopefully with the extra 200mm of lens, I can get some good pictures of the birds on the marshes from in the hides. Also this has nothing to do with birding, but at my grandmas on the same day I marvelled a spectacular thunderstorm with the lightning scampering across the sky. So yeah, that’s my story on how I got into birding.

Hi Ev!
Welcome!
This is a great place with friend people.
I am amazed how kind, and quickly people respond if I can't ID a bird.
With a longer lens you should get the need photos you are looking for :D(y)
Just don't do what I do! lol.
Seeing new birds, and having a good set of binoculars will make a BIG difference for you.
Best to you,
Jeff :)
