Hi, I live in Dorset and today saw a bird I’ve never seen before. It was the size of a large buzzard but with a short v shaped tail. The colours were epic on it! I actually thought it was a pheasant for a moment it was so richly coloured. It was slow circling only 70-80ft above me as I was riding past on my bike.
It was near Shaftesbury on the road near the Compton Abas Airfield
Anyone can tell me what it was? It wasn’t a common buzzard I’m sure...

Hi SpookDog and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

The v shaped tail is a dead give-away for a Kite: Red Kite - BirdForum Opus.... as you say beautiful birds, especially when the light catches them!!

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.
