Day Two, part two - Base level We decided to spend the rest of the day looking for some other birds, but first we had another stroke of fortune on our way back towards Boat. I was warm after the walk so we had the windows down, which enabled me to hear a wood warbler in full song. James perfromed an exemplary emergency stop and we were able to watch the bird in the canopy as another bird piped up. We then headed on toward the Flashes at Boat which in some years do hold Slavs, but we couldn't see any. We also tried Loch Vaa, but the water looked way to high. We did score goldeneye and common sandpiper so all was not lost. We then moved to another site and we were rewarded with Slav nest building. We watched a bird dragging lily pads into the sedges, remarkable fortune. With the light so good we headed to the fish farms to get some gen, and met possibly the nicest guy ever. He said it was quiet inside and despite being about to go home said we could go on the pools and use the hides where they had filmed the springwatch Ospreys the previous week. Just when is this rich vein of good fortune going to run out? Well not right now! An Osprey slams into the pool at 5 metres distance and nails a trout. Immense. I even managed a couple of record shots... ... a quick drive through some capper woods reveled nothing new Total buzzard count after day two - 21 Total time in Capper habitat - 3.5 hours Total Cappers - 0
