Three Hobby Spectacular!! Decided on an evening Hobby hunt - good decision. Not even arrived at my usual spot when I saw two fast familiar shapes in the distance. Got the bins on a spectacular chase - thought at first the pair were going for Swifts low down - one was above the trees and the other skimming the ground - but suddenly I saw the female was seeing off another female - and the male was following as they had a top-speed dog fight! As the intruder fled in a looping streak the territory holder dived and attacked again and again, virtually hitting her mid air, then they would part and this was repeated. The male, meanwhile, kept station above them - flicking his wings in a blur to keep up. The invader headed off east and the chase was off - but the pair were clearly still in high spirits - and they followed the chase with an incredible show of flying prowess - reinforcing the pair bond. Each tried to outdo the other in speed, turns, dives and loops. This went on for some minutes until they perched up in adjacent trees. Within a minute, blood still up, they were off to repeatedly stoop at a perched Buzzard, one of them screaming at it as they circled vertically at the larger raptor, which didn't budge. Finally they settled down in a tree where I left them. This pair are ready for another feisty season!
