121. Jay
122. Great Spotted Woodpecker
123. Great Grey Shrike
124. Common Crossbill
125. Common Redpoll
126. Black Grouse
127. Red Grouse

All of these were seen yesterday. I think this total stands me in good stead for Portland, where I will be staying from the 6th-12th April. Prior to heading to Dorset I will be staying in Somerset with family, where I hope to do a little bit of birding at Chew Valley Lake and around Ham Wall. I would be very happy if I came back from the trip having seen 150 species for the year.

Hi
You will need a pass to get full access to Chew Valley (available from Woodford Lodge) Also valid for Blagdon Lakes and Barrow Tanks.
Two other places worth a visit are Catcott Lows and Greylake

I was aware of this, although I believe you can view part of the Lake from Stratford Bay and the like too. I'll most likely get a pass. Thanks for reccommending Catcott Lows, I wasn't aware of this place. However I am aware of two Spoonbills recently having been at Greylake, and will probably go down to Greylake regardless if they are there or not. ;)

Last Sunday was a bit chilly (compared to what we've been having recently), but managed to get out to the local reservoir to look for some swans that I'd heard about on the local "bird-board". Some good new arrivals out there now...

A quick 24-hour dash up to the Channel coast and back perked up the list a bit. Sadly the weather was a bit rough, especially at Cap Gris Nez where the wind was off the land.

I'm up to 131 with my first Chiffchaff of the year, Kittiwake, Bewick's Swan and Egyptian Goose. I will be leaving for England on Tuesday and will be staying in Portland Bird Obs the following Wednesday.

I thought I would go down to Bluff Woods Conservation Area, Halls, Missouri, before the rains came! When I arrived at about 9 AM it began to get darker and darker, then a couple rumblings of thunder. I headed back for my vehicle in the parking lot. Barely had I made it back to the parking lot when it began to sprinkle. I drove back home in a deluge of "liquid sunshine"!

My time at Bluff Woods CA was about 20 minutes. I was able to pick up a First Of Year (FOY) bird:

107. Louisiana Waterthrush and a few other regulars, but that was about it.

Maybe tomorrow (if the rain abates) I can get out and pick up a few more FOY birds for Missouri.
