Well, Brenda and I are back from New York and we did bird Jamaica Bay and Prospect Park (both in Brooklyn). I did not get to bird Central Park though. I was able to add ten (10) birds which I have not seen yet this year in Missouri. They will not be counted as I do not keep a "lower 48" List on a yearly basis.

Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge (June 4th):
__ Mute Swan (sometimes seen in Missouri but usually regarded as an escapee)
__ American Black Duck (occasionally seen in Missouri)
__ Yellow-crowned Night-Heron (I should have seen one in Missouri but missed it)
__ Glossy Ibis (occasionally seen in Missouri)
__ Osprey (another I somehow missed so far in Missouri)
__ AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER (* I am not going to see this one in Missouri)
__ Laughing Gull (not usually in Missouri)
__ Great Black-backed Gull (somewhat rare in Missouri)
__ Common Tern (sometimes in Missouri)
__ Willow Flycatcher (this one definitely occurs in Missouri)

On Sunday, June 6th, it was pretty slow birding in Prospect Park (added no "new" year birds). * I should have been there in early May, then I would of had opportunity to see a good variety of wood warblers!

Drove to southern Indiana this morning to the only breeding site in the state for Mississippi Kites. Along the way I made a slight detour to look for shrikes (a long shot, but I did see two shrikes). Since I saw both target birds, I'm now up to 211 for the year.

210. Loggerhead Shrike

What I call the summer doldrums are definitely here. It's getting more and more difficult to find new birds, and it's too hot and humid to do much birding anyway. However, I did get a new bird for the year this morning. It's one I should have found earlier this spring.

213. Least Bittern
