Great bird, Dave, and one I've wanted to see for ages!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Unless you live in the North Woods, redpolls aren't easy birds to see. The last time I saw redpolls was in Minnesota in 2005, and this was only the fourth time I've seen them in my life.

I never seem to get to the northern US or Canada any more. I'll have to settle for squinting at male House Finches so they look kinda like Common Redpolls!

Arriving at work today:
166 Winter Wren

Looking back at last year, I see that I need 40 more species this weekend to catch up. Never going to happen! However, I may add at least a few new year birds tomorrow and Saturday. The coast should add shorebirds and terns, while High Island might add a few early migrants.

One new bird today, so my Year List is now up to 117.

117. Blue-winged Teal

This was the last regularly occuring duck that I can expect around here for the year. It was also my 100th species for the year in West Virginia.

Bananafishbones

Incoherently Rambling .....
been a little slow this year, currently only on 104.

Two main reasons for the slow start..... not been to the coast this year so no shore birds and keep going back to a guaranteed site for Lesser Spotted Woodpecker and keep dipping :-C I must venture further afield and quickly :t:

Still a little slow but up to 113 now with yesterdays 2 x Bewick's Swans

Couldn't sleep so got up at 6am, out for 6.45 (got to have breakfast!) and only meant to have a short walk across the Pastures to see if there were any Chiffchaff back yet (there weren't) and as it was such a nice morning I ended up doing the full circuit and didn't get back until 10.50am! :-O

93: Siskin
94: Grey Wagtail
95: Dipper
