Despite a windy, cold, raw day (which included a few snow flakes), I managed to find three early spring migrants this morning, so I'm now up to 124 for the year.

122. Brown Thrasher
123. Northern Rough-winged Swallow
124. Broad-winged Hawk

Very dark clouds but no rain this morning. Also saw Redstart, Black Redstart, Blackcap and of course Great Tit singing in the same row of houses/gardens.

Congratulations on the Prothonotary and the Purple Gallinule! Both beautiful birds. The photo is a Prothonotary I saw last weekend at High Island with odd staining on its crest.

Added just 4 to my list this weekend:
166. Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
167. Black-necked Stilt
168. Pectoral Sandpiper
169. Chimney Swift

Jeff,
I saw a similar Prothonotary Warbler in Honduras a few years ago. I'd never seen one like that before or since. We were wondering if the odd color was the result of staining or if the bird was some sort of hybrid.
Dave

Funnily enough, Dave, I saw a post about the Honduras bird.
Everyone I've spoken to believes that it must represent staining by some kind of fruit. This fits with the fact that the red crown feathers on "my" bird look rather matted.
There are several more photos of the same bird on my blog.

Was going to try to go somewhere coastal to look for migrant birds of the song and shore varieties, but it seems I was scheduled (without notification!) to work both days of the weekend. Grr...
