Rob - BTW I spotlighted a Boobook on Palawan at dusk (roadside Lion Cave Track) and heard one calling nearby. I'll be whacking that on when you do a paper splitting all the Philippine Ninox up!!
cheers, alan

Great photos on Surfbirds, Palawan Scops is mega!

Got great views of Morepork in NZ and both Blakiston's and Ural Owl in Japan so now on 86, some way to go to match your 114!

I think the straight answer to this question is - not enough!

I have added Marsh Owl this year, but it's still a paltry score compared to those earlier posts.

My world list of owls is shown in this thread at post # 178.

I was hoping to add Tengmalm's Owl (Boreal Owl to us in North America) on my recent trip up to Duluth, Minnesota. Alas, it was not to be. I did not get to see one!

So my world list of owls remains as it was, 23 seen and 2 heard only!

I added one more species to my owl list on a recent "sight-seeing" trip to Beijing, China.

24. Brown Hawk-Owl, heard and seen on the Tsinghua University Campus, Beijing, China, April 28, 2009.

Edit: The Northern Boobook (Ninox japonica) was split from the Brown Hawk-Owl (Ninox scutulata). So my owl in China was the boobook.

Added Tawny-bellied Screech-Owl in Ecuador this winter, plus heard-only Crested Owl and Tropical Screech-Owl. From Arizona, I added Elf Owl (seen) and Whiskered Screech-Owl (heard only). Hoping to get a few new ones in Costa Rica in the coming weeks.
