Lucky man! Heard it but dipped at KNC so I hope I can get to grips with it shortly in KK.

Wow! Right at the Morakot! I cringe to think that I was so probably so close to that species without hearing or seeing it.

Wow Im amazed at all the different species of owls! I unfortunately dont even remember the last time I heard an owl around here. Here's hoping to photographs soon of one! We have screech owls, and great horned owls and barred owls around these parts but we don't usually hear them until about Summertime.

120 was the rather splendid Black-banded Owl at day roost at Muyuna Lodge, Quitos, Peru.

Thanks to a trip to northern Minnesota (flying home today), a few days ago I added Northern Hawk Owl and Great Gray Owl!!! The latter was one of my all-time most-wanted species. Woo-hoo!

Haven't updated this in a while, but getting my first photographs of Little Owl yesterday reminded me of this thread.
So I've now seen:

1. Eagle Owl (Falun copper mine, Sweden 2008)
2. Great Grey Owl (forest in central Sweden 2008)
3. Ural Owl (forest in central Sweden 2008)
4. Pygmy Owl (forest in central Sweden 2008)
5. Long-eared Owl (Derbyshire 2010)
6. Short-eared Owl (Flatruet, Sweden 2008)
7. Tawny Owl (parents' back garden, Derbyshire 2010; Carsington Reservoir, Derbyshire 2010)
8. Little Owl (Acrocorinth, Greece 2008; local patch, Banbury 2009; Oddington, Oxfordshire 2011)
9. Scops Owl (Platres, Cyprus 2009)

I've photos of all these except Scops (which I hope to add on Lesvos), Short-eared, and Tawny. Still not seen a Barn Owl though :-C

Your first photo does not quite look like the Long-eared Owls we have over here on this side of the pond. (Your owl appears to have taken some sort of other raptor.)

Thanks, Larry. The hanging wing is the Owl's (at the time when I checked the ID I was a little concerned the bird had a damaged wing, as it was perched near a road, but I believe LEOs can hang their wings like this). The fact that it had been raining heavily may also have something to do with the bird's colour - and the fact that it's out in the open in daylight - trying to dry off I suppose.

I may be able to add a few more when I go to France this year
