How much do I have to spend to match the performance of my Bushnell Legend M's? (1 Viewer)

For the last year I've owned Bushnell Legend M binoculars that I am very happy with. They are 10x42. They were a phenomenal deal and are no longer being made. I'd like to get some 8x42 binoculars and I have a question for those of you who have used the Legend M's - what are some comparable models currently being made in terms of optical quality? I am willing to consider porro prism as well as roof prism binoculars.

I am very happy with the optical performance of my Bushnells. I'm willing to spend as much as it takes to get similar optical performance.

I guess I'm confused yet again, is OP looking for something less costly?

Why not just buy the factory replacement and be done with it?

I did not know the Forge was the factory replacement. It's certainly not as cheap as the model it replaced, although it's not super expensive. I didn't realize it was a complicated question - I figured there might be other models out there that I hadn't considered that were similar in terms of optical performance that were also a good value like the Legend M used to be.

I bought two Legend Ms back from Midway on the Bay a couple of years ago for a steal, they were a steal because they (Bushnell) stopped making them and dealers were trying to empty their shelves. I know I would never get the same caliber glass for what I paid for them today, you will not either. Look around and you will find a used Forge 8x42 for about $300, that is the minimum you will have to pay for something equal to your Legend Ms in 8X42.
I would also look at a used Nikon Monarch 7 8x42 for the same price.

Good Luck

There is usually a presumption that the replacement (newer version) is "better" than the one it replaces.

It seems odd to me to not want the better version, but to only want an equal replacement.

CO_west, I have the older Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 10x42 model. A Bushnell rep once told me it was similar to the Legend M. I also have the Forge 10x42, which is noticeably better optically. So I would guess you'd be pleased with the Forge 8x42.
