How to see Leach's Petrel (1 Viewer)

There have been a few skuas, 2 each of Bonxie and Arctic but otherwise very little at sea. I'll be having a look later today and I think tomorrow morning could be good. Hilbre would be my choice.

Its blowing properly here now, and its onshore!

Odd Petrels about in the bay now, and its blowing hard enough to keep them in....if it goes SW, I'd recommend the Lancs coast instead

Blowing the dust off this thread for another year. Its been blowing stiff W for a good three hours now and with more forecasted overnight, there is just a chance that we could be seeing Petrels by Wed. More chance of Stormies this early. I'm going to have trouble getting up the stairs to see them though (my good knee is currently not living up to its name)

Looks good Jane. Will probably try the Gunsites on the ebbing tide as won't be able to male Hilbre Wednesday. For those interested high tide is 12.30 ish BST.

The Landrover makes a good sea watching hide!

I can't drive either Phil.

Its dropped off to 5 already - probably not long enough to get much into the Irish Sea.

Wind West 5 to 7, occasionally gale 8, becoming cyclonic later and decreasing 3 or 4.
Sea State Moderate or rough, occasionally slight.
Weather Squally showers, rain later.
Visibility Good becoming moderate or poor later.

The sea is VERY busy. In 10 mins of using my tripod as a zimmer frame in my front room, I saw an Arctic Skua, a Fulmar, 10 Manxies, all close, and plenty of Terns, Kittiwakes, and Gannets. I'll drag myself up to the top room later and rig up a chair to watch from

It was flat calm today! Loads of birds in the bay though - you can see Manxies as far as the Nikon Fieldscope can see. As in so far that you can't resolve wings!

Only a force 5-6 forecast Rob but a North Westerly nevertheless. A few Leach's have been seen off the West coast of Ireland in the last few days so they are passing and just need a little tickle of encouragement into the Irish sea!

Its windy enough to bring birds into the Irish sea.... its the right time of year.... if this keeps up you may be ok. I'm about to have a look, I think its too early (in the blow) for there to be much.

Southwest veering northwest 5 to 7, occasionally gale 8, perhaps severe gale 9 later.
Sea State Rough.
Weather Rain then squally showers.
Visibility Moderate or good, occasionally poor at first.

If there are birds on Wed, Thurs will be ok - though its not looking that windy then according to magic seaweed - you might be better looking out to sea of Leasowe. I'll let you know nearer the time

15 Leach's past Hilbre so far and 1 past Wallasey - only a matter of time. It looks to be continuing to Thursday and veering more NW so perhaps worth a few hours.

Jane's inactivity here may mean she's glued to her crow's nest!

No the Little Shear didn't come past. Over 50 Leach's, 70 Skuas in a LTS and a Sooty Shear, which was also seen on Hilbre, Black Tern etc. 100 or so Manx - I'll be totting up soon
