Any "Stormies" today? - there don't seem to be any North-west reports so far.

I'm off so was thinking of a brief look this afternoon.

Just been down to Red Rocks and seems surprisingly quiet, loads of terns but not much else.

Just heard from Hilbre, they had 30 Storm Petrels over high tide - wow!

There are a few waders back yesterday. A couple of Whimbrel, 15 Knot, 3 Ringed Plover 25 Sanderling and 10 Dunlin. 150 Sandwich Terns too

A new Butterfly for the garden today. I saw a larger, strong flying paleish butterfly admist my cloud of gatekeepers in the garden. At first I though I'd flushed a faded speckled wood, but landed and proved to a Grayling. Now there are two but I can't get close enough to photograph them! They breed about a mile away and it seems that allowing my garden to revert to being a sand dune is reaping rewards.

Hi Jane, there are plenty of Graylings to be seen between Caldy and Thurstaston along what I call the Cliff Meadow, many other butterflies can be seen there also.

Hi Jane,

I counted 10 Graylings on Hilbre on Sunday, the most I've ever seen. Must have been quite an influx to NW Wirral last weekend !

114 Was and Arctic Skua yesterday. About 1000 Dunlin and Ringed Plover on the beach today. Alas no White-rumped Sandpiper. Also forgot to report a Whimbrel last monday and a Sparrowhawk

Back from Holiday and looking forwards to Autumn. Willow Warbler and Goldcrest in the back yesterday and a few Gannets offshore today, but in general a disappointing tide, with just a few Common and Sandwich Terns and no small waders.

Timmy - it been so poor. There are NO calidrids at all on the beach, very very few seabirs (just one or two Arctic Skuas). There haven't even been many migrant passerines, a couple of Wheatears yesterday, a Willow Warbler today and a fly over Grey Wagtail. A Sparrowhawk on Mon has been the highlight of the worst Sept I can recall.

A few tit flocks went through today - probably 40 Coal Tits in total. Two Chiffchaffs but as yet no Dendroica. I remain hopeful.

Might just get better at sea too

Leach's Petrels at New Brighton this morning, at least 3 I understand. Not been able to get out myself yet!
