A warm morning sat in the garden added a fair few new* species. Pride of place goes to a sound record of Raven* ,presumably the same two that were messing about at Red Rocks this morning. There was plenty of overhead passage, including 5 Redpolls*, 10 Siskin, 4 Tree Sparrows* 50 Meadow Pipits and a Skylark*. Also heard was a Pheasant*

There is a Chiffchaff in the front and a Goldcrest in the back garden

we went on the walk over to hilbre.

1 swallow,

3 sandmartin
4 purple sandpipers
and 132 white bellied brent geese,

plus the chap at the ringing station with chaffinch in hand were the birding highlights

plus an exceptionally close view of a common seal which had hauled out.

thanks to the people who organised the walk, we really enjoyed it.

A Swallow just flew though the back garden as did the 2nd Grey Heron of the year. Otherwise quiet - just a few Pipits and Finches moving.

Chiffchaff, not Chaffinch!:t:
The seal has caused a lot of debate recently with the concensus being its an immature Grey Seal. There is a Common Seal lurking but the photo's taken Saturday look more like an immature Grey. This is one I took earlier - and one of one of the Chiffchaffs we ringed.

I was the one without the red hair and with the black Labrador (Molly).3:)

And finally a chiffchaff that is not in Chris's hand! It also looks as though I was tipsy when I took this picture B :)

Two Willow Warblers singing this morning - also two more birds and a Chiffchaff. The wagtails on the beach are still all Pieds. Yesterday there was a couple of Canada Geese. There are displaying LBBGs looking at our small section of flat roof. Not sure whether to be pleased or worried. Finally the back garden Robin is now coming to our hands to take Mealworms. The Chickens do not approve!

There have been Phylloscs in both gardens all day - probably 6 Willow Warbler and 8 Chiffchaff. A few Wheatears have been arriving - 6 in total and Swallows have been passing (6 so far)

There are still up to 7 Willow Warblers and a Chiffchaff in the front garden.Iget the feeling that they are hanging on from Saturday's fall, rather than new birds. This bodes well on the growing scrub in the garden's ability to hold a rarer warbler.

3 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaffs and a female Blackcap in the front garden. 4 Mallard flew through air space (unusually). 24 White Wagtails on the beack. I'm expecting a blizzard of them in the next few days.
