It's a sparrow. Pale throat, rufous crown, grey nape... I'll say Swamp Sparrow.

Thanks Butty, I hadn't realized that Song Sparrows in the southwestern US are much duller and greyer than the ones I see here in the northeastern US. I think Song is the right answer -- Swamp should have dark markings on the mantle, which this doesn't.
