I need help identifying a bird, Australia (1 Viewer)

Hello there :)
I'm quite new to bird watching. I was recently on a long hike along the south coast of Victoria, Australia. Along the path there was a lovely little bird I'd like assistance identifying. Annoying, I never had my phone/camera available when I saw it so I don't have a photo. It looked like a wren or a finch. It was brown and olive coloured with a small bright red patch on its upper tail/rump. When it extended its wings in flight, it's underwing was all red as well.
The closest match I can find is either the red brown finch, or the diamond firetail, however neither of those have a red underwing. I am a little stumped so would appreciate any assistance.
Thank you so much!
Cheers, F.

Hi F and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

Sorry I can't help with the ID of your bird, but there'll be someone along before too long with some ideas for you.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Welcome to Birdforum! I am sure that you will find lots to interest you here and I hope you enjoy your visits.

If it was bright red on the rump, an additional option is beautiful firetail (note that one of the other possibles you named is red-browed finch, not red brown finch). But I can't see anything that would match the all-red underwing you mentioned. Experience shows that it is very very easy (for anyone) to make mistakes - even major ones - about what one sees/remembers from a v brief view of an unfamiliar bird.
