ID Handbook of European Birds at Bird Fair (1 Viewer)

Agree John, in fact I thought that they were hardly promoting it, as tucked away on the side of their stand! Noted some American passerines included. Good book especially if ordered before the end of July to obtain the discount.

Agreed. You almost had to know it was there to find it. Fingers crossed that it appears on the publication date (20/08) although the middle of the holiday season is surely the worst possible time to release it. Issuing it with a big fanfare at the Bird Fair would have been better! Presumably, inflexible deadlines made this impossible.

I got my copy yesterday absolutely fantastic guide. As stated elsewhere this is not your normal 'field guide' like Collins ... more of a specialist guide on plumage variations etc but absolutely brilliant for detailed studies / comparisons. The photos are excellent. A book that looks and feels top quality.

Totally agree the addition of close up photos to show the minute details to separate similar species is a fantastic addition. It shows you exactly what to look for to confirm an id. The in hand photos are a great idea as well as things like tail patterns can be crucial. Being able to more accurately age species will be of interest to many no doubt.

Obviously not a field guide but you could take photos of certain plates on your phone to use in the field

Looking forward to receiving mine, though I guess I'm going to have to wait until the official release date as I ordered through my Birdguides subscription.

If I'd have known it was already available at other stockists I would have ordered from nhbs and been reading it in a couple of days instead of having to wait until the end of August.

The book is fantastic, and I invested in the eBook, available from Princeton University Press. So far it has failed to load on two phones (the file is 'too large to be rendered'), and I keep getting an error message on my tablet which their tech support has been unable to sort out.
