Both names are in use Andy which needs to sorted; IOC & HBW use Manipur, Clements uses Streak-throated.

I wonder why Ludlow's Fulvetta has been discarded in favour of the desperately boring Brown-throated Fulvetta, and Juniper Finch is a much nicer name than Red-browed Finch!

I agree with you about Ludlow's Fulvetta - I should have mentioned that. Both Streak-throated and Brown-throated are dull names for such delightful little birds. But what's a Juniper Finch?

If they're going after eponyms, they're going to have a hard time replacing the names of species named after people like Blyth, Gould and Temminck - there are so many of them.

I must also agree with KC that this series of threads has featured some great images of relatively little-known species. I hope you have more for us, @mihir .

Juniper Finch is a sadly defunct name for Crimson-browed Finch. In the context of the Himalayas, naming finches after various shades of red bits doesn't seem to add much clarity, especially when it doesn't apply to females at all. I have to admit I don't think I've ever actually seen one in juniper,, but it's at least an easy name to remember!
