ID rapace Merseyside this morning (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone

My sister took this photo
On a phone inside the house

In Merseyside
I would have thought busard but no "collar"

And it seems very " juvenile" for this time of year

Your help please

Hello Buck,

knowing location, I agree with you, its a pale Common Buzzard.
I tried add the add the markings on the face to the "raccoon" like face, regular in pale Buzzards, but failed. Anyway, nearly triangular moustachial stripe and extensive dark neck is good for a Buzzard.
Yes, I am surely biased by location.

I've lived in Merseyside all my life and have never once witnessed a Common Buzzard land on someone's back fence

They can be seen over populated areas but only soaring high up

So I doubt that it's that

A large-ish bird happy to land on a back garden fence? Only ever seen Sprawks 'round here do that, but can't make out this fella for a positive ID

Can you share a more exact location as Merseyside is a large area - and I'll keep an eye out (y)

The house looks on to the canal and on the other side of the canal the farm land starts
River Alt

Cheers
Cheers for that (y)

I'm always going along that stretch of the canal - usually on my way to Lunt Reserve or down onto the TPT heading up to Southport so I know where you mean
