Any help in identifying these birds would be appreciated. Seen at the Tyninghame Estuary, East Lothian, Scotland, yesterday as the tide was coming in.

Any help in pointing out the features that help towards your ID would be appreciated so I can learn for the future

I thought teal, but I looked it up to check, because I thought they were rather bright for females and rather dull for males - I would have expected more colouring on the heads.
