Identify this duck (1 Viewer)

On the Rufford branch canal. Adjacent to Rufford Old Hall. West Lancs.
Small, pretty, grey duck.
Black stripe over head.
Reddish brown patch on wing.
Beige mottling on breast.
White under tail.
Possibly escaped from nearby WWT Martin Mere.

There is a Ringed Teal on the canal at Rufford, it's been there for at least a year.

I guess the WWT can defend themselves but I would say it's much more likely to have escaped from a private collection, or dumped by someone who doesn't want to keep it any longer.

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum (y)
We're glad you found us and please join in wherever you like. ;)

Sorry, but I'm not great on Water Birds. I can move your thread to I D section of the Forum and you'll get a lot more suggestions there. You'll be notified when someone replies.

Hi Woodhallman and a warm welcome from me too. You can read more about the Ringed Teal in our Opus article and look at more images in the Gallery by clicking on the search links at the bottom.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

Checked some pics, and confirmed Ringed Teal. Poor little guy. Trying to make friends with Mallard girls.
