If the price of an EL SV seems too good to be true? (1 Viewer)

On the left is an a 10x32 EL SV (pre-FieldPro), from a 2015 ebay listing by wunderle08.
And on the right is a '10x32 Waterproof Powerful Long Range Binoculars Telescope with Bak4 Lens',
from a current listing by a company out of Hong Kong, with a buy now price of $55 US.



Although the latter isn't presented as an EL SV, and is unlikely to mislead many, there is the obvious external similarity
(and coincidentally it showed up in a listing of Swarovski binoculars).


The product description may suggest the possibility of 'value adding':


. . . as may the vacant inset on the left barrel?


Though perhaps that's all just happenstance 🤔

John the Chinese have been copying western goods/techology for decades but in this case I think it is merely copying the look so would expect inferior quality. You get what you pay for unless the copy is priced without the ‘brand’ premium, but even then the price would be so close that most people stump up for the original.

Personally, it looks to me like they've improved on the Swaro. Just look at the strap lugs!

They look suspiciously like some "Visionking" binoculars I picked up on eBay some years ago for about £17 - out of curiosity: "How bad can they be..?" Answer: really rather bad. They didn't have any dioptre compensation. The view was decently sharp in the centre, but massive field curvature - the image kind of flew off at the edges. Surprisingly solid build quality though (for the price), and the armour may well prove more durable than Swarovski's.
