Today was a beautiful day.. after weeks of greyness and wind, it was clear blue skies, the wind dropped, the thermometer was asaying 2c... but it felt much warmer. I took a walk along the South-eastern cliffs and found a :- 50, Song thrush.... I knew they were here.. I'm seeing a lot of small brown thrushes... but so far the only one's I've possitively identified have been Redwings usually I'm flushing them from the scrub, where presumably they're feeding on ivy berries, they dart out, plummet over the cliff and disappear from sight, before revealing so much as an underwing. The Redwings and Blackbirds quickly finished off the holly berries outside my bedroom window, before I could get a sprig or two for a christmas decoration! The highlight of the day was standing, completely surounded by a flock of Long-tailed tits, some less than two metres away.. all making their wee tweetings... It's that sort of experience that keeps me going... all this talk of rarities, but it's the everyday i like best!
