The big grassed area before the feeding station were Song and Mistle Thrush

Been raven watching a couple of times near Kinver this week, hoping to see lesser spotted woodpecker along the canal but no joy.

Nothing new to report at Baggeridge, hoping to get down there tomorrow afternoon though but will see. I'm at a child protection conference in Walsall that finishes early afternoon so I may try somewhere in that area. Either way, I'll be somewhere that's for sure. :t:

As Keith Richards says at every show "It's great to be here - at my age it's great to be anywhere!" Although I think that's probably a quote from someone else too!

Have searched for "your" woodpecker with no joy.

Good Birding!:t:

I've been back myself Roger, but no joy. But a couple of interesting sightings recently - a female tufted duck on the Stour (the pools were all frozen so was probably desperate for some water!) and today a female goosander tried to land but someone walking put the bird off.

I'm feeling pretty humble Sedgley. I have walked this stretch, which is close to the house, once or twice a week for 15 yrs, you seem to have seen top birds after just a couple of weeks!

Perhaps the comment about walkers is relevant - I only get to walk when the world and his wife (their three children and their dog!) is about.

Have to console myself for missing a local patch tick with a lifer - Jack Snipe at Upton Warren - yesterday, I've tried for years for that one and always missed it by minutes!

Roger ... Sedgley has a bird eye to envy... I feel like I am blind when I walk with him. He is so at one with the birds I reckon they call his name :t:

My birding improved ever such a lot after I went to Russell's Hall and had the Swarovski eye implants. o:)

Thinking I might have saved enough and some large regular bills coming to an end this month I thought I might get Mrs P her long promised bins.

However a huge car repair bill has put the kybosh on that.

So I'm delighted to learn that we might get some Swarovskis on the NHS :t:

Sorry about the car bill....Roger.

Well after a very scary start to the morning and that was just trying to drive into Baggeridge the walk was rather lovely if a bit quiet, 10 sightings including Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Song and Mistle Thrush Then the usual wee fellas playing in the sun as it watmed the tops of the trees.

I did see several nice looking flocks but unable to ID as the sub was very bright and making them quite indistinct.

Along the canal near Cookley, a single sighting of a raven in flight and a goosander that was coming in to land on the canal but saw me and veered off elsewhere.

Thanks for the text John about the Baggeridge peregrines, but nowt there when I went. I was driving past anyway so it wasn't exactly a wasted journey. So don't feel guillty that you have seen 2 peregrines and I haven't :-O

I know the Fens Pool is Dudley but having been and froze to death today I can really recommend it.

I saw Great Crested Grebe, Pochard, Shovler,Tufted Ducks by the dozen as well as a lot of stuff seen else where.

Recent birds include a woodcock near Himley Hall, which didn't fly far enough to become a Baggeridge tick unfortunately. Also a barn owl near Kinver, in flight during the day sop pleased with that, and the first of the year.

Still seeing raven in the Kinver area including a brief aerobatic peformance from one bird.
