Walking the dog along bamburgh avenue about 6.30 pm and noticed a male blackbird had something pinned down on somebodys drive and was pecking like hell at it, anyway when I went over for a closer look the blackie flew away and a stunned Sand Martin lay there motionless, I picked it up and checked it out for wounds and there's nothing visible but it made no attempt to fly off (not even sure it can anymore) .....anyway i've tried feeding it insects which i caught in the garden but it wouldn't take them so it's now just resting in a box in my garage with the door wide open so hopefully it will recover enough to get airborne and join his folks again - fingers crossed!
What on earth was the blackie up to? - i'm baffled!
Cheers, Dougie.

could well be exhausted, i've just remembered a swift was lying motionless on my mother in laws decking last year, i watched it for 10 mins or so then i went to check on it, a friendly couple of nudges got it on its way again though :t:
great news dougie..the little fellow survived.Just sent the little fella on his way - he looked much brighter after a couple of hours rest than he did when i first saw him, so I decided to take him on the leas about 8.30pm and let him go... one almighty launch and he flew away no bother:t:
Cheers, Dougie.
nice find dougie the whinchat..well deserved after all that leg work.!Had a good 5 hours out today starting on the leas, then off to Souter, Whitburn CP, Cleadon Hills, Marsden old Quarry, back on the leas then home again – phew!……. all the usual in every location but with the added bonus of 2 Groppers heard and a Winchat seen on Cleadon hills (SW corner of so. shields golf course)
Cheers,
Dougie

Dougie.
