And a couple of comparison pics, which might help people, much like myself, who find It difficult to tell one tern from another.

1 - roseate tern and common tern to rear.
2 - 2 roseate terns and arctic tern to rear.
Nice shots Ray:t: ya getting a dab hand with tern spotting now.;):t:
Its a lot easier when you see them side by side for comparison, your next challenge is the juvs.;)..

Well, I'm glad I ignored somebodies advice (its not very good weather for butterflies) cos I went to Wingate Quarry and had an excellent afternoon, with the Marbled Whites showing exceptionally well. There were plenty of them as well, well into double figures. Plenty of other species too.

Kibblesworth and Lamesley

Thanks for the tern IDs, good to see such a healthy population of terns in our area. Great Day out to kibblesworth lamesley area. good to hear plenty of yellowhammers around, a few warblers out as well as a family of wrens, highlights of the day birdwise were male kestrel, little grebe, little owl, and a whimbrel which was at lamesley (since the rains this area is looking much better now with curlew as well as canada and grey lag geese). Dragonfly and butterfly report will follow in the other thread.

Excellent count Keith the best as far as i know for this year so far for here.
Looks like a juv. Roseate to me, thier are very scalely looking on their backs this time of year like Sandwich tern juvs. And don,t have the large cresent dark patch around the shoulder area like Common terns.

This weekend has been mostly spent on carpark duties at the Whitburn coastal park, the National trust kindly let the Coastal Conservation Group put a small cover charge on the gate of £2 per car...of cause NT members and regular dog walkers, Light house visitors, and general public using the carpark for a short time were exempt.
I have to say its restored my views on the general public towards wildlife around our region, i would say 98% of paying visitors were happy to tip up once their understood why a small entrance fee had been applied....ALL MONEY GOES TOWARDS OUR REGION REGARDING WILDLIFE. even some NT members still paid once their knew why the entrance fee had been applied for the first time.

A fantasic effort by all the lads concerned...huge pat on the back..:clap::clap:

Good effort with the moth and not an easy subject to photograph.
