A few Pics

Thought I would take this opportunity to post a few more pics from today saying as we don't get this kind of activity in South Tyneside very often.

It seemed kind of strange seeing a Whitethroat, Subalpine, Blackcap and Redstart sitting in the same small shrub together !.

Subalpines seen at 9am and again at 11.45am, the birds becomming more elusive proberly due to it having to look for food harder, as the local population of caterpillars must of been hammered over the last few days with fall we,ve had here.

Todays findings, 2 Visits to Trow, The little star,s showing less. And the supporting cast seem to have mostly left the building.
Only 2 Redstarts seen, 1 Blackcap, 1 L.Whitethroat(near Gypsies Green), 4/5 Whinchats still around the bowl area, small numbers of Willow warblers, But still a canny number of Wheatears still about the area. Medpip. numbers well down since last week also.
Went along to Boldon Flats.....
G.C. Grebe(imm.) and Dabchick, 1 Blackwit, 20+Ruff, 3 Snipe, 3 Wigeon, 30+Teal, 1 Shoveler, pair of Ruddy duck........of note. But another Ruddy,Pintail and Greenshank seen today which i did not pick up, God knows what else the vegetation is hideing!
Big flock of Golden Plover now at Whitburn.
Med gull in the car park again at Marsden.
Few shots from today, not the best..hope some of the lads with the big lens at Trow did better.

1........Lesser Whitethroat, harder to photograph than the Subalpine.
2.......Distant shot of the G.C.Grebe
3.......Golden Plover doing what they do best when spooked.
4.......Med. Gull with its mate

Thanks for that, Derek:t: nice to meet you too mate, always good to put a face to a name:t: - I bumped into Ross at Whitburn (mid afternoon) we'd both heard there was a Hoopoe in the area, we didn't see it though, Whitburn/Marsden is a pretty big area and it could've gone down anywhere.

Will give the place the once over again tomorrow:-O

Cheers, Dougie.

Visit around the doors this morning..
Cleadon Lane Flash 10am....3 Curlew sands., 2 Blackwits, 20+ Ruff, 10+Dunlin, 20+ Redshank
The Little stint still eludes me here!.but the birds and numbers are contantly changing.
Boldon Flats......3 Greenshank, 1 Wood sand, 20+ Ruff, 30+ Curlew, 2 Shoveler, 1 G.C.Grebe, 1 Dabchick, 3 Wigeon.
Newton Garth Farm area....150+ Meadow Pipits in the fields here.
Barmston Pond....18 Shoveler, 1 Ruddy duck, 2 Pochard, 12-15 Tufties, 4 Dabchicks.
Bullies and 1 Redstart also seen here.
The vegetation here is overgrown so viewing from the screens is hampered and also a capsized Canoe in the small pond, water level as i expected too high so no waders.

While everyone was looking for the Subalpine on Saturday afternoon - i decided to pay Segg's best mate a visit in the hope he would say hello.....

After about 10 visits with no luck i managed my first picture of the Trow Little Owl :t:

As a relative newbie it was very nice to see about 8 Whinchat in the rough grass that leads from Little Owl tree back towards Mangoes - another new species for me.

Plus it was great to meet up with Davy Mitch and have a good old chat..
