Alrite!
This pm

Back down to the patch "Trow"
Looks like the feast is almost over for now around here, No sign of the Subalpine whilst i was here, 20+ Wheatear between the Quarry and Gypsies Green, 6+ Whinchats, 3 parties of 30+ Linnets in each, over going south..3 stonies, pair in Trow, one on the mound.
And my mate the Little Owl seemed pleased to see me!!:-O He was sitting on the outside branch of the tree and never flickered as i slowly walked up to the favoured perch....amazing!... i watched from a distance as i left the spot as 4 lads approached the owl(without camera,s:eek!:), they got no way near before he did a one into the rock face!!:-O...wise old owl;)
The "other" owl is back on the scene(not the tree owls mate), its the one that sits on the rock face near the path going up to Frenchmans bay(Fenched off at the moment), John mentioned it to me the other week and i saw it last week and also and today.

Med gull still in the carpark at Marsden..

2nd visit of the day to the Wader hotspot in South Tyneside at the moment "Cleadon lane flash"...finally nailed the Little stint;)..Blackwits had gone, but seen the Knot which i had missed this morning, also 2 Greenshank here on my 2nd visit...so 14 waders for me here today:t: 15 seen in total today as Martin has said.:t:
Quick look at Marine park, fruitless as regards to migrants..the 2 imm.mutes still here.
....................
Nice one Derek:t:, knew he would show if he seen the camera;)

Pic 1...Redstart at Barmston(only one of the day)
Pic2....Shoveller again Barmston
Pic3...Poser!
Pic4 ...the imposter!
Pic5....Finished October! would,nt count on it

"and also a capsized Canoe in the small pond"

any hooded crows feeding on the floating body beside it?

No but a strange sight this one, looked like the Tittanic going down, sticking up in the water but the weed on the surface sort of spoiled the imagne :-O

Thanks, Steve:t:

I know what you mean about work - it doesn't half get in the way of the birding doesn't it, 6 numbers on the lotto would solve it though!:-O

Cheers, Dougie.

The Gardens of Wardley

I've a great birding day and haven't moved form the house. Whilst making a cup of tea this afternoon I noticed a Coal Tit in our garden!! Chuffed to bits as we've never had them before, I texted Mick who rang & said "get the camera". By the time I'd set it up and got a quick photo, to my right I saw a Long Tail Tit! We had them briefly about 18 months ago when they came in to get the cobwebs from the fence and this is the only other time I've seen them. Also after a long absence the Robin has returned.

I've been watching all afternoon and 1 Coal Tit quickly turned into 2. It's great to have something different. As soon as this damn rain stops, I'm off out to drill holes in the tree and shove some fat in it!

Redstart on the Leas mound this morning and still a few Whinchats and Wheatears about. Thought I heard a Gropper yesterday morning on the hedgerow on the Leas and bumped into Ross who confirmed he had one in Trow along with a Reed Warbler.:t:

Weather beat me back from Trow this morning:-C
Could not sit in the house so went back out.
Managed a few sites dodging the heaviest showers, met Martin and Jason at Cleadon Lane and tagged along with them.
Cleadon lane flash was much the same as yesterday(i missed a Peregrine here the lads seen it), as was Boldon Flats, except more Wigeon and Teal present today.(3 Greenshank here at this visit)
But the biggest surprise was seeing 7 Yellow wagtails on the once flooded pitch(now a mud flat) at the Academy, along with 40+ Pied wags and same amount of Medpips.
Also picked up a Little stint here, possibly the Cleadon lane bird?? along with a few Ringed plover and Dunlin. A Sand Martin with the House Martins and Swallows.
Retired soaked after this, but worth it!:t:

Hi Steve,
Joanne and I had 3 OR 4 y wags in exactly the same place on sunday, also a knot. Didnt dare report it coz (for the one and only time this summer) there was a heat haze:eek!: which made positive ID a little tricky. there were also a few grey wags just to compound things.
Top report though:t:

Regards

Mick
