walk to barmston pond, watched b-h gulls diving into the water like terns, is that normal? seemed to be a feeding frenzy.
walked back along the dis-used railway line only thing of note was gold crest,on the south tyneside side :)

hows barmston pond looking these days,i used to be a regular visitor there,but it's been going down the pan lately.|=)|

I regularly take a peak but unfortunately regularly disappointed (in the main). To me it looks rich habitat but If I am right there is no management of the pond to improve or even create ta better attraction for the birds. I understand that once over it was a a real hot spot for migrants. Such a shame it does not provide more |:(|

the only thing on or near the 2 pools where tufties a heron and gulls plus the mallards.
afew blue,great and lt tits in the trees a couple of pheasant.
maybe it needs a big chunk of the grass at the north side dug up and sloped down to the water abit.

1 to dannyboy- the Buzzard picture at Lamesley may not be your greatest , but it showed perfectly , an unusual sighting , which took me half a page to describe.
2 to Ian McAlpine-your Kesterel shot of 17 th at Trow , I must have missed you by mins. because that is how I seen it .

The Wildplaces Project has been capturing fantastic footage and images of wild mammals in our urban areas over the past 2 years, including the now infamous Jarrow otter! Find out all about our native mammals and see some of the exciting footage of animals that are closer to home than you might expect.
This is a South Tyneside Council Countryside Team event.
Venue: Library Theatre, Central Library, Prince Georg Square, South Shields. NE33 2PE.

There’s no need to book, all are welcome to just turn up on the night.

It was unusual with the buzzard and teal wasn't it, either a soft buzzard or hard as nails teals.

The Kestrel Ian photographed almost seems to to a pet it is so tame it does however allow brilliant shots as has been shown by a few people Sless being the latest.

colliery woods this morning (before the rain)
a pair of mallard on the pond, there every morning now
4 hen pheasant among the horses
seems alot of blue and great tits along the bottom path and at least 4 reed buntings
meduim sized flock of mixed finches 80/100 feeding near the dingy skipper ditch, some mealies among them i could see at least 2 before they dropped to the ground.
then rain stopped play.

golden plover about 20
snipe at least 8 feeding in the wet marsh area of the wheat field
reed bunting 4
mainly goldfinch flock 40
loads of blue/great and long-tailed tits
partridge 12
pheasant 2 cocks
b-h gulls eating bread off the pond, mallards going to be disapointed later after dusk.

i bought one a few years ago,just to keep in the van for work,there ok,but a bit dark,but for 20 quid and going to places like corus on teesside,they were great,ive gave them to my mate now tho
